Greg Schwanbeck on Global Education, EdTech, and STEM Education

About Greg Schwanbeck

I am Greg Schwanbeck and I love teaching!

Currently, I work at Westwood High School as an AP Physics and Astronomy teacher and as instructional technology coach (ITC). In my ITC role I am tasked with helping my colleagues capitalize on our district’s 1-to-1 Chromebook program and teaching digital citizenship seminars to incoming freshmen.

I also work at MIT, teaching Educational Theory & Practice I, II, and III (CMS.591-CMS.593), a three-course sequence for undergraduate and graduate students looking to become middle or high school STEM teachers, part of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Scheller Teacher Education Program.

In 2017 I completed a Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms Fellowship in the Philippines and in 2020 I received the MIT Levitan Teaching Award. I am (or have been) an Apple Distinguished Educator, an ISTE Certified Educator, a Google Educator, and a regional leader in providing edtech-focused professional development.

My teaching methods and thoughts on educational technology have been featured nationally in publications such as The Huffington Post, EdSurge, and the book American Teacher: Heroes in the Classroom by Katrina Fried.

I earned my master’s degree via the Learning Design, Innovation, & Technology, program at Harvard University and earned my bachelor’s degrees in Physics and Mathematics at Union College.

When I'm not teaching I enjoy seeking out adventure with my amazing wife Keba and our two sons, Taylor and Thomas.
